New Hotels to Open in St Petersburg
The Sixth Russia & CIS Hotel Investment Conference took place in Moscow on Oct. 25 to 27. Artem Klykov, head of hotel and office real estate at ExpoForum jsc, attended the conference and discussed the development of Russia’s hotel industry with leading experts.
Conference participants were impressed by the development of hotel infrastructure in St. Petersburg. In accordance with a programme launched in 2004 to develop the hotel infrastructure, the St Petersburg city government has been active attracting investors to the hotel industry. The programme stipulates state support for realizing hotel projects.
``Land that is used for hotel construction is provided at a special price,’’ said Marina Dunaeva, first deputy chairman of the City Committee for Investment and Strategic Projects. ``Today, we can already evaluate this programme’s effectiveness. In 2008, there were 1,295 new hotel rooms; in 2009, there were 1,404 new hotel rooms; and to date in 2010 there are 948 new rooms, with another 479 rooms planned to be completed by year’s end.’’
