Russia Seeks to Abolish Travel Visas with the European Union
Abolishing the system of travel visas was one of the main topics discussed at the Ninth International Investment Forum in Sochi. And end to the visa system would be a powerful stimulus for the development of convention tourism in Russia.
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin believes it’s necessary to end the travel visa system between Russia and the European Union, and he pledged that Russia is willing to act quickly to decide this issue. During his presentation on September 17 at the Ninth International Investment Forum in Sochi, Putin said that the visa system between Russia and the EU is ``a major factor that retards the development of human and business contacts. Russia is ready to act quickly to help end the visa system. But this will also require political resolve from our European colleagues.’’
Anatoly Erkulov, general director of ExpoForum jsc, also participated in the Sochi Forum, and he emphasized that abolishing the visa system between Russia and the EU would lead to the rapid development of convention tourism in Russia. ``The decision whether or not to attend a business event is often made just a few days before the actual event,’’ said Erkulov. ``Therefore, abolishing visa requirements for Europeans will allow our country to become competitive on the international market of meetings and events.’’
ExpoForum and Northern Capital Sky Gateway (NCSG) discussed working together to develop the area around St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo Airport. NCSG is currently reconstructing the airport.
