A Convention Bureau will Open in Russia
By the end of 2011 the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) plans to open a special organization for conventions, reports RIA Novosti news agency.
''It will be created as a non-commercial organization. It has already started working, even though it has not yet been officially registered with the Justice Ministry as a ''Russian national'' organization. To secure that status it is necessary to receive permission from the country's regions. Currently, we already have permission from Expocentre, the International Trade Centre, to participate in this project. Representatives of the cities of St. Petersburg and Moscow will be members of this organization; and negotiations are already underway with Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, and Vladivostok,'' said Vladimir Strashko, vice-president of the CCI, according to RIA Novosti.
Anatoly Erkulov, ExpoForum general director, strongly supported the idea of creating such an organization for conventions in Russia. ''We are ready to closely cooperate with the Russian convention bureau because it will help the convention business in St. Petersburg,'' said Erkulov. ''More organizations involved in the development of convention tourism will lead to better results. The main task is to unite and coordinate such activities in order to get maximum effect. I also would like to see such an organization created in St Petersburg in the near future.''
