Arab business community seeking opportunities in North-West Russian market
The Arab business community is actively seeking opportunities in North-West Russia, according to Vladislav Lutsenko, Deputy Director of the Russian-Arab Business Council (RABC) and Director General of the Arabia Expo exhibition. An agreement to hold the exhibition in St Petersburg for the first time in its history was signed today at the Lenexpo Exhibition Complex.
“We took the choice of the new venue for the exhibition very seriously”, Lutsenko stressed, “and we are grateful to ExpoForum for the services provided – Lenexpo meets all our requirements.”
A wide range of Arab states will host national exhibits as part of the event, which will take place between 30 May and 1 June 2013. Iraq, Algeria, Lebanon, and the United Arab Emirates have already confirmed that they will take part. Russia’s regions are also showing an interest, with Bashkortostan and Krasnoyarsk among the first to sign up.
Arabia Expo will follow a business-to-business format, and aims to facilitate direct interaction between Russian and Arab entrepreneurs. “The success of the exhibition will be judged on the number of business connections forged between participants, not on the number of deals struck”, said Lutsenko. The significance of the event in promoting economic and cultural ties between Russia and the Arab world is supported by the fact that the plenary session and the round tables, covering all areas of business, will be attended by Russian politicians and foreign trade ministers from Arab states.
“Holding the exhibition at Lenexpo is not only an honour, but also a great responsibility”, said ExpoForum Executive Director Sergei Voronkov during the signing ceremony. “The seeds of collaboration planted by this first exhibition in St Petersburg will continue to grow in the new ExpoForum Convention and Exhibition Centre.” St Petersburg may get this opportunity again in 2017. The Russian–Arab Business Council has decided that Arabia Expo will be held in Russia every four years, alongside the regular RABC meeting hosted in Russia.
Alexander Prokhorenko, Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St Petersburg, officially welcomed participants at the signing ceremony on behalf of the St Petersburg Government, and underlined the event’s importance. He emphasised “the need to take collaboration between Russia and Arab states to a new level, to work together to develop the region’s investment potential, to instil dynamism into private business, and to strengthen cooperation in the latest high-tech industries.”
ExpoForum has received a letter of thanks from the administration of the St Petersburg Suvorov Military School, an institution run by the Russian Ministry of Defence.
Specialists from DMG Russland will demonstrate an effective combination of performance and the latest technologies.
Today ExpoForum is marking a significant date: it is one year since the first pile was installed in the foundation of the new ExpoForum Convention and Exhibition Centre.
ExpoForum has launched a project under its range of community engagement programmes to help young residents of St Petersburg learn about different career opportunities. A series of tours that will introduce school children to the world of exhibitions will begin on 2 November.
