Innovations in business on show at Lenexpo exhibition

The Governor of St. Petersburg, Georgy Poltavchenko, told the 10th Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Forum that the city would support businesses that produced high-tech goods and created ultra-modern jobs with decent salaries.

At Lenexpo on 12 and 13 December, the 10th St. Petersburg Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Forum and the St. Petersburg Small-Scale Business exhibition were held. 264 companies displayed their products across a space of over 1300 square metres.

The Governor of Saint Petersburg, Georgy Poltavchenko, made a tour of the exhibition and examined the innovations on display from the city’s 18 districts. ‘The city’s potential allows us to progress in the field of production,’ he stated, pointing out that small business is becoming more and more important in the economy of Saint Petersburg. At the present time, over 50% of all Saint Petersburg government contracts go to small and medium-sized businesses. Speaking at the plenary session, Mr. Poltavchenko awarded letters of thanks to the winners of the city-wide Best Entrepreneur in St. Petersburg competition.

As part of the forum’s business programme, 8 round-table seminars were held, where many issues were discussed, including consumer market problems, staffing policies in small and medium-sized businesses, new opportunities for cluster development of small business, etc. For the first time, a subcontractors’ networking platform was organised and more than 150 enterprises took part in it. Representatives of small and medium-sized business could establish productive and cooperative relationships with many of the city’s large businesses, including Severnaya Verf Shipyard, GM Auto and others.

The role of small business in the economy and the tasks facing small enterprises connected with integration into the modern industrial structure   attracted over 3,000 visitors to the forum and exhibition.
