The congress activity is one of the strategic priorities of St. Petersburg
This was stated by the executive director of ExpoForum Sergey Voronkov at the IV all-Russian Conference ‘Exhibition and trade fair activities: regional priorities’. The event was held on June the 6th at the VI International Forum of the exhibition industry 5pEXPO’2012.

In his report Sergey Voronkov stressed the need to identify strategic priorities in development of the territories and underlined the idea that for St. Petersburg one of these priorities should become the congress activity.
All over the world, exhibitions and conferences are considered to be an effective tool of economic development of a region. However, the current situation in the Northwest market is characterized by a low interest of the foreign companies in exhibitions and congresses, the absence of the major international organisers with the well-known international brands and the presence of many small competing events. Such a situation can not meet the expectations of any business or government. Formation of St. Petersburg as one of the leading business centres of the international level is impossible without a qualitative change in the market of congress and exhibition services. It is this task that formed the basis of the development strategy of ExpoForum.
‘We plan to bring to the city the major international operators, which will allow the St. Petersburg market to get away from the regional nature’, said Sergey Voronkov. ‘To do this, we need some large-scale events that may interest them. With this purpose, we are creating the umbrella projects consolidating several exhibitions and forums of one subject together with other organisers‘.
