The demand for workers in the oil and gas industry has significantly increased
Reporting at the roundtable conference on training and developing of skills of the professionals in the oil and gas industry, the Sales Director of St. Petersburg branch of the recruitment portal hh.ru Olga Anokhina dispelled the myth of an excess of candidates in this field. The roundtable was held in the framework of the business programme of St. Petersburg International Gas Forum taking place from June, 4 to June, 6 in Lenexpo.
“When people say they wish to work in the oil and gas industry, they usually have in mind a manager position, said Olga Anokhina. Although the shortage of staff is mostly observed in the field of workers. The situation is catastrophic in such industries as coal, ore and mine surveying, i.e. the geology that studies the structure of the field”.
According to the specialists of the recruitment portal hh.ru, over the last half-year period the number of vacancies for workers who can use the modern foreign equipment is one and a half bigger than the number of the relevant CVs. But even the CVs posted on the website do not full respond to the employers’ requirements. Many job seekers do not master modern technologies used in manufacture.
“The active development of the oil and gas industry entails modernisation of the equipment which has to be mastered. The professionals need to constantly improve their skills”, noted the President of the NP Gas club Yury Shenyavsky.
To prepare the professionals who know how to deal with the modern manufacturing, educational establishments should closely cooperate with businesses. The examples of such cooperation already exist. Thus, the Gubkin University of Oil and Gas of Moscow, one of the main suppliers of staff to the oil and gas industry, is actively developing its training programmes together with companies. Over the last three years, the specialists of the state gas enterprise of the Moscow region Mosoblgaz and the state enterprise on servicing the gas supply networks in Moscow Mosgaz have received professional retraining under such programmes. A distinctive feature of the courses is their practical orientation. The topics to study are offered by the students themselves: reconstruction of the gas supply system in the town of Khimki of Moscow region, the problem of the worn-out pipelines of Moscow gas supply system and others.
