Investments in St Petersburg Industry Double over Past Year
Governor of St Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko spoke about this increase in investments at the opening ceremony of the XVI ‘Russian Industrialist’ International Forum and the St Petersburg International Innovation Forum.
“Based on the figures for the first half of the year, our city’s economic growth has exceeded the average national level”, he said. “Large forums like this one help create a favourable environment for further economic development.”
After the opening ceremony, Governor Poltavchenko visited stands presented by companies from St Petersburg’s Polymer Cluster, Mechanical Engineering and Metalworking Innovative Technology Cluster, Medical and Ecological Equipment Engineering and Biotechnology Cluster, and a number of others.
In addition, Governor Poltavchenko visited stands presented by companies based in other parts of Northwest Russia: the Kaliningrad and Pskov Regions. Both regions have demonstrated fast economic and industrial growth, which is of great interest to their St Petersburg colleagues.
Anatoly Turchak, President of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of St Petersburg expressed his confidence that the Forum would serve as a springboard for more than one successful contract, which, in turn, would be reflected in the city’s economic development.
The Forum, hosted by Lenexpo, provides a networking platform for industry professionals, as well as for those new to the sector who are just beginning to grasp the fundamental industrial processes.
Sergei Voronkov, Executive Director of ExpoForum, talked about this feature of the Forum in his speech. “The Forum is hosting professional competitions for students of primary and secondary vocational training establishments”, he said. “This means that the industry has great prospects and a great future.”
