St Petersburg Needs Quality Landscaping Projects
This was the pronouncement by Yuri Mitiurev, St Petersburg’s Chief Architect, at the opening ceremony of City and Flowers, a forum focused on the landscaping, park infrastructure, and ornamental horticulture industries.
Extending his congratulations on the start of the forum to participants and guests, he emphasized that all the positive changes to St Petersburg’s appearance are testimony to the city administration’s growing interest in landscape design. He also added that the city still has a need for modern, high-quality projects for the development of its parks and gardens. Yuri Mitiurev’s remarks were complemented by those of Larissa Kanunikova, the Head of Landscape Architecture of the Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture in St. Petersburg, who reminded the audience that the city had been awarded the title of Most Comfortable Russian City last year, in part thanks to its parks and gardens.
According to the executive director of ExpoForum, Sergei Voronkov, the forum gives professionals a wonderful opportunity to see the latest trends in landscape architecture and to discuss professional issues, with the aim of sharing ideas and experience. Specialists from Russia, Estonia, and the United Kingdom are taking part in the programme. In addition, the forum will include negotiations on developing cooperation with one of the leading exhibition companies in Germany, Messe Essen.
The results of the Vertical Flower landscape design contest were announced at the opening ceremony, with first place awarded to Mikhail Terlevsky for his Constructivism landscaping scheme.
