Theory and practice of landscape design at Lenexpo

Issues relating to functional landscape design, as well as the reconstruction and preservation of RussiaТs plant nurseries, estates and gardens, were the key themes of the City and Flowers International Forum, encompassing a number of events relating to the latest developments in the fields of landscape architecture, floral arrangement and phyto-design.

Those who attended the Forum’s business programme appreciated its practical value for specialists in the profession. Conferences and seminars focusing on important issues of aesthetic city planning in contemporary urban settings were supplemented by master classes from landscape design professionals. For the first time as part of the event, a round table brought together specialists from Russia and abroad to discuss the subject of estate preservation, an exceedingly relevant topic for Leningrad Region, which is home to around 200 protected estate sites.

Companies from Russia, Estonia, Germany and the United Kingdom exhibited their latest achievements in the landscaping industry, including developments in lawn and gardening equipment, garden architecture, plant care technology and floral design for indoor and outdoor spaces. Among the industry leaders displaying their latest products and services were Piccoplant, Gavita, Orange, Fronton, and David Austin Roses, which presented two new varieties of English rose at the exhibit in St. Petersburg.

As part of the Forum, discussions were held with Egon Galinnis, the director of one of Germany’s leading exhibition companies, Messe Essen. The discussions led to an agreement to jointly organise flower exhibitions and increase the focus on horticultural technologies. In 2014, IPM Essen, in cooperation with the City and Flowers event, plans to expand its exhibition activities in the floral arrangement and design sector. A full exhibition hosted by IPM Essen may be held in St. Petersburg as early as 2015.
