St Petersburg to provide serious competition for Moscow in the exhibition market
Although the market for industry exhibitions in Russia is primarily concentrated in Moscow, the capital could face serious competition from St Petersburg in 2014 with the opening of the ExpoForum Convention and Exhibition Centre.
This forecast of developments on the Russian exhibition market from 2013 to 2017 was presented by PwC, the largest international network of consulting and audit service providers, in its annual report on the main trends in the global entertainment and media industries. According to the specialists at PwC, the new 100,000 m² ExpoForum complex is capable of eventually becoming the largest trade fair centre in Europe.
The report also noted that Russia is ranked 8th in the world in terms of revenues from the organisation and hosting of trade fairs: in 2012 its profits from this sector amounted to USD 852 million. The experts predict that Russia’s accession to the WTO will lead to a significant increase in the international trade fair market across the whole of Russia as transport and customs legislation is brought more into line with that of other countries. In addition, the infrastructure development programmes connected with Russia’s hosting of the 2018 World Cup will further ensure the growth of the exhibition sector.
