DOING BUSINESS WITH CHINA FORUM OPENS AT LENEXPO

On 9-10 December, the 6th Russian-Chinese Forum Doing Business with China: Wholesaling was held at Lenexpo. Its the largest platform for the discussion of Russian-Chinese business issues in the Russian Northwest, gathering together more than 2,500 people every year.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, First Deputy Chairman of the St. Petersburg Committee on International Relations and Migration Policy Vadim Okrushko noted that the choice of host city for the forum had been no accident, since the history of the evolution of Russian-Chinese relations is inextricably linked to St. Petersburg. “This year, we’re celebrating the 70th Anniversary of Victory in the Second World War. It’s a jubilee of tremendous significance to our two countries, each of whom bore the main brunt of the aggressor’s onslaught. The kind of mutual support and shared historical memory that we’re witnessing today gives us a solid foundation for effective and productive cooperation in such areas as industry, investments and trade between Russia and China,” commented the speaker.

These sentiments were seconded by the Chinese Consul for Trade-and-Economic Relations, Wan Fen Tai, who stressed that St. Petersburg currently occupies an important position in the ongoing development of Russian-Chinese business relations: “The city is not only Russia’s cultural and scientific-research capital, but also one of the country’s leading business hubs. According to the Customs Service of the RF Northwestern Federal District, trade turnover between China and St. Petersburg amounted to USD 3 bln 711 mln in Q3 2015 alone. Also worthy of mention is the growing volume of exports from St. Petersburg to China, which totalled USD 587 mln. All of this clearly indicates that St. Petersburg has tremendous potential and huge opportunities for cooperation in various areas of our business partnership.”

For her part, First Vice President of the Russian-Asian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs and Head of the China Office, Margarita Fedorova, added that as a business-and-information platform, the forum makes it possible to broadly assess the advantages of the Russian market, emerging as a place where theoretical discussions find expression in the implementation of mutually-beneficial, long-term business projects.

The Russian-Chinese Forum “Doing Business with China” is one of the largest Russian-Chinese business-networking events anywhere in Russia or the CIS. The forum is organised by Vector-Expo and the Association for the Development of Business Ties at the Chinese Business Centre.
