A new linear park will appear on Vasilievsky Island
The city authorities will begin construction of a new linear park on Vasilievsky Island in 2023. This was announced on March 22 by Larisa Kanunnikova, Deputy Chairman of the Saint Petersburg Improvement Committee, at the discussion session “Formation of Comfortable Urban Environment in Coastal Zones, Embankments and Water Bodies” within the XXII International Forum “The Big City Ecology,” which takes place at the ExpoForum Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The new park with its area of 70 ha will be laid out between the Western High-Speed Diameter (ZSD) and the Makarov Embankment. The project includes, in particular, improvement of the Smolenka River embankment and construction of a fountain. It will take about 2 years to create the new recreation area.
Besides, the Improvement Committee starts designing a new landscape park in Krasnogvardeysky District, Larisa Kanunnikova added. Its area will be about 40 ha.
