"The Russian Federation is currently ranked 4th in industrial fishing in the world. In 2018, our fishermen extracted more than 5 million tons of aquatic bioresources, which was a record result for more than a quarter of a century. The fishing industry is one of the most crucial in the economy of our country and has strategic importance for ensuring its food security. Russia faces an ambitious task which consists of not only becoming a leader in fishing, but also of becoming a leading manufacturer and supplier of fish products", – said a minister of agriculture of the Russian Federation Dmitry Patrushev at the opening ceremony of the Forum and the Exhibition.

A deputy minister of agriculture of the Russian Federation – a head of the Federal agency of fishery Ilya Shestakov told that events from now on will be held in July, on the eve of the celebration of Fisherman's day in Russia.

"The authority of the Forum and the Exhibition is growing not only in Russia but also in the world as a whole. This year we will consider the use of global ocean resources from three perspectives: environmental, economic and social. And we will try to find balance", - stated the head of Rosrybolovstvo.

At the plenary session "Ocean of opportunities: Nature, economy, human", Russian and foreign experts discussed issues of economic efficiency and social stability, fishing and competition regulation, legislative support and the relation of public and private interests in the fishing industry.

At the session, the minister of agriculture Dmitry Patrushev, the deputy minister of agriculture of the Russian Federation – the head of the Federal agency of fishery Ilya Shestakov, a minister of agriculture and forestry of the Turkish Republic Bekir of Pakdemirli, a minister of marine affairs and fishery of the Republic of Indonesia Susi Pujiastuti, a governor of Kamchatsky Krai Vladimir Ilyukhin, a governor of the Arkhangelsk region Igor Orlov, a president of the Commission of fishery in the North-east Atlantic (NEAFC) Jacques Verborgh, a president of the Commission of anadromous fish of the North Pacific ocean (NPAFC) Suam Kim, a senior vice-president of PJSC "Sberbank" Vladimir Sitnov, a senior expert on fishery household issues FAO Marcio Castro de Souza were presenting.

"We are responsible for leaving the World ocean to the next generations. We will pursue a policy of social responsibility and developing international programs. Renewable resources is one of the strategic objectives”, - stated the minister of agriculture and forestry of the Republic of Turkey Bekir Pakdemirli.

On the first day of the IFF, round tables "Digitalization as a tool for transformation of the fishery industry", "How to properly sell fish", "Arctic and Antarctic: resource potential, ban or fishery, elements of cooperation" were held.

At the Leningrad ship building factory "Pella" with the participation of key delegates of the Forum, a fishing freezer trawler "Scorpion" was launched for the Murmansk fishing company.

The exhibition of the fish industry, seafood and technologies SEAFOOD EXPO RUSSIA on the area of 13,200 sq. m demonstrates novelties and modern developments of domestic and foreign enterprises in “Expoforum”. Among the exhibitors there are group "Norebo", LLC "Russian fishery company", group of companies "Antey", "Fishering Service" and others. The exhibition brings together 335 member companies.

On the first day of the exhibition, 5 important agreements were signed. The government of the Arkhangelsk region signed agreements with the government of the Kamchatskiy Krai, with the M.V. Lomonosov Northern (Arctic) federal university, with the Association "Arctic fish-industry cluster". In turn, the Northern University signed an agreement with the all-Russian research Institute of fishery and oceanography, and the Arctic fish-industry cluster – with federal state unitary enterprise "Nazrybresurs".

The business program of the International fishing forum will continue on July 11. The exhibition will work until July 12.

In 2017, the International fishing forum and the Exhibition of the fishing industry, seafood and technologies were held in St. Petersburg for the first time in the exhibition complex "Lenexpo". Since 2018, the events are held in “Expoforum”.

The organizer of the project is the Federal agency of fishery, the operator of the Forum is Foundation Roscongress.
